TANYA GARNER
HEAD COACH
Coach Tanya the head basketball coach for both the Pittsburgh Pioneers and Nazareth Prep, where she leads with a strong vision, passion for the game, and a commitment to player development. A former standout at West Mifflin High School and a collegiate player at Penn State University, she brings high-level playing experience to her coaching. Before taking on these current roles, she served as an assistant coach at the high school and collegiate level, gaining valuable insight and building a strong foundation in leadership and strategy. Her journey through every level of the game reflects her dedication and deep love for basketball.

TROY AKINS
ASSISTANT COACH
Coach Troy is a senior at Woodland Hills High School and a three-year varsity basketball player, serving as team captain for the past two seasons. He joined the Pittsburgh Pioneers coaching staff in summer 2024, bringing a player-first mindset and strong basketball knowledge. Troy has two years of coaching experience in the JCC Harry B. Davis Basketball League and has also worked with the development program Run The Show. Known for his high basketball IQ, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with players, Troy is a rising young coach with a bright future.

SHAHEED WASHINGTON
ASSISTANT COACH
Coach Washington is an assistant coach for both the Pittsburgh Pioneers and Nazareth Prep, where he brings passion, energy, and a strong commitment to developing young athletes. A former basketball player at West Mifflin High School, he uses his playing experience to relate to his players and provide valuable insight on and off the court. His understanding of the game, combined with his ability to connect with student-athletes, makes him a key asset to both programs. Whether he's helping lead practices, supporting game-day strategy, or mentoring players through their personal and athletic growth, he brings a positive and focused approach to everything he does.

MALACHI MUNGIN
ASSISTANT COACH
Coach Malachi is an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Pioneers, bringing enthusiasm, dedication, and a strong basketball background to the team. A former player at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, he uses his on-court experience to help develop players and support the coaching staff. In addition to his coaching duties, he plays a key role off the court by managing the team’s social media accounts and contributing to the development and maintenance of the team website, helping to enhance the program’s online presence and community engagement.
